Hello, my name is Chris Pugh, and I'm a photographer from Northern California. I've been working at the Ukiah Daily Journal as the Chief Photographer for the past nine months and have been learning a lot about what it means to be a news photographer. I sometimes can be found doing freelance photography and web design consulting work for people in the Lake and Mendocino County areas, but I'm trying to keep that to a minimum right now so that I can focus on photography.
I am the founder of the Ukiah Photography Club and currently serve as club president. Over the years, I've photographed everything from weddings, to baby showers, to car shows, and just about everything in between. Photography has been a part of my life for the better part of the past decade and because my work is so diverse in that on any given day; I could be photographing a young lady getting her nose pierced or a gathering of LGBT friends at the local watering hole.
When it comes to photography, I like to think of myself as a generalist or as someone who photographs almost anything. Lately, I've been thinking a lot about the styles of photography that inspired me most, and I am planning to start focusing on street photography, environmental portraits and how I can become a better photojournalist. I want to tell stories through my photographs and will be producing books, zines and offering prints for you to purchase. I also want to get back into film photography and have recently been working on building a 35mm everyday carry kit. In the future, I plan to get into large and medium formats. More on that soon.
Outside of photography, I am known for my love of loose leaf tea, locally brewed craft beer, 80’s heavy metal music, and useless trivia knowledge. I've recently started collecting old vinyl records and photo books. I don't have a super well thought out vision for this blog, but I'm excited to be writing again.
