For the past few years, a small group of members, including myself, from the Ukiah Photography Club have been showing photographs during September at the Corner Gallery in Ukiah. We haven't yet gathered to discuss how the show went; we just finished taking down the show yesterday. However, I do know that collectively we sold four photographs during the month-long show, one of which was mine.

Even though I have been showing my photos for years, I never know what to expect when making my selections. There is a lot of work that goes into making art ready to hang. The photographs need to be printed, matted, and framed. Both my style and interests in photography have changed over the past few years. In years past I was interested in making mostly landscape type work, but after working at the newspaper for the past two years, I am pretty much only interested in editorial work these days.

Knowing that my editorial work would likely not sell in a gallery setting, I decided to show a mixture of photographs that represent my current style of newspaper work, along with a few photos that I felt someone might want to hang on their wall at home. Of the six pictures that I entered into the show, I sold one print to an anonymous buyer made an offer $25.00 under what I was asking. I took the photo of the Calpella Community Church earlier in the year when I was toying with the idea of doing a photo series on local churches. I don't know who the buyer was, but I thank them for their purchase and for supporting my work.
